What To Watch
What better time to settle into some iconic films and admire the wrist candy? If you are needing some movie suggestions for the weekend ahead, we have you sorted.
1. Bruce Wayne – Batman Trilogy
Film director, Christopher Nolan’s take on Batman is arguably one of the greatest and most iconic. Throughout the trilogy, Bruce Wayne sports the elegant Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso as his timepiece of choice. A special edition Reverso was created for the final instalment, The Dark Knight Rises. Sleek and understated, we couldn’t think of a better suited watch for this masked hero.
2. Gordon Gekko – Wall Street
Cartier, Santos de Cartier
Side stepping to the 1987 film Wall Street, where Gordon Gekko’s mantra ‘Greed is good’ is sartorially complemented by his gold Santos de Cartier watch. A truly befitting watch, with its curved edges and exposed screws, the watch is a statement piece, admired by Gekko’s protege, Bud Fox, who eventually acquires his own Cartier (a Panthere de Cartier).
3. James Bond – Casino Royale
OMEGA, Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial
The most iconic film and watch pairing is emulated by none other than the world’s favourite spy, James Bond. Revered for his near perfect infusion of ruggedness and stylish calm under pressure, Bond’s watch is as much part of the protagonist as his frequently disposable Aston Martin cars. Since switching allegiances from Rolex to OMEGA in 1995’s Goldeneye, different variations have claimed the spy’s wrist, however most notably the Seamaster, with its more military and robust feel.
4. The Expendables
Keeping the action theme alive, we switch gears to a group of mercenaries known as The Expendables. Across both the first and second instalments of the film we see these rugged characters wearing Panerai timepieces. Spotted on the wrist of Sylvester Stallone is the Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta Rattrapante Chronograph, while Jason Statham’s character sports a Submersible 1950 Bronzo. Bold and crafted for extreme conditions, they are perfect watches for these men on a mission.
