The holiday season is all about spending time with family and loved ones, and the precious gift of a fine timepiece or exquisite jewellery will not only mark the occasion but ensure it’s remembered for years to come.

To get in the spirit of the festive season, we spoke to members of the Kennedy team to see what they’re hoping to unwrap this Christmas, as well as their top tips on choosing the perfect gift for someone special in their life.

01

“Timepieces make the perfect gift as they mark that special moment in time, and we carry that memory with us every day that piece is worn, making checking the time a small celebration

– Jamie Graham, IWC Boutique Manager

Q: If you were gifting an IWC this year, what would you be getting, and more importantly, for whom?

I’d certainly get in trouble if I didn’t get something for my fiancé! Earlier this year, we were lucky enough to see the new Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon (IW545801) in person, and I have to say the presence this piece has is extraordinary. The timeless balance of the Portugieser is so clearly on display with this incredible piece.

Q: That would make quite an impression under the tree. Now, what watch did you put on your Christmas list this year?

This year has been a huge year for the Pilot collection, and I can’t stop looking at the Big Pilot Top Gun Edition Mojave (IW506003). From the moment I first saw this piece, it’s been in the back of my mind. The combination of Pilot collection heritage and IWC’s continuous innovation in materials come together perfectly in this must-have Big Pilot.

“Jewellery is everlasting, a lifelong gift that may be enjoyed and treasured for a time and then passed on from one generation to the next. Diamonds are forever, and Graff Diamonds are the most fabulous Jewels in the World.

Q: A lot of people find purchasing jewellery — especially for someone else — pretty stressful. Do you have any pro tips?

It never hurts to do some research first. It needs to suit the person’s style and complement their other Jewels. Consider what they would appreciate as you want them to be pleasantly surprised and enjoy wearing the particular Jewel you have selected. Jewels may be personalised through style, colour and shape and, for an extra special touch, presented with an engraving of a significant date or initials.

Q: Words to live by. And can we ask what’s on your wish list?

The Graff Graduated Diamond Line Necklace … one of my most desired Graff Jewels, a classic, sleek silhouette, perfect for day or evening to complement any wardrobe and all occasions. A must-have!

“Take note of other watches your loved one may already have. It can help determine if they have a particular style they like to stick to, if they are collecting certain pieces and even their preference in movements which will help narrow down the selection.”

– Kateyln Meertens, Panerai Boutique Manager

Q: Buying a watch for someone else can be tricky; what advice do you have for people who are trying to pick the right watch as a gift?

I always suggest choosing a classic timepiece or something iconic to the brand. It is always a safer option and will most likely be a model that will be around forever. Also, I suggest choosing a classic-coloured dial, either white or black, but at the end of the day, I suggest going with your gut feeling; you know your loved one better than you think.

Q: That is excellent advice, and what about you — if you were lucky enough to be gifted a Panerai, what would you love to see?

Such a tough choice! I have a few favourites at the moment, but the one that I would really hope for would be the Luminor Due Madreperla PAM01280. The white Mother of Pearl dial against the polished Goldtech case is a beautiful combination and elegant on the wrist. I also love that it captures the iconic Panerai look with the crown bridge, but in a smaller 38mm case, making it the perfect size for women.

“I believe in the ‘buy once, buy well’ philosophy, and a good watch is a great example of that as it will last a lifetime.”

Q: So, what are you hoping for this holiday season?

I’d love a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic. It’s something that I’ve had my eye on for some time. The Reverso is a timeless design that can be dressed both up and down. It’s such an iconic watch that it is sure to remain stylish forever.

Q: Now flip that situation. What watch would you gift, and who would be getting it?

I’ll have to say, my wife. She’d probably never spoil herself but being spoiled is something that she deserves, and she would appreciate a beautiful timepiece. Something from Cartier, a Ballon or a Pasha, perhaps?

“A great way of ensuring that the person receives a timepiece they truly love is to surprise them at the boutique! The person is able to choose a timepiece themselves whilst having their loved ones with them on the day, as well as having an amazing in-boutique experience full of laughter, love, and champagne.”

– Dee Weeratunge, Kennedy Boutique Manager

Q: Why is a timepiece such a meaningful gift?

When worn, a timepiece is a daily reminder of the person who gifted it to you. It’s also often a sign that they know you and care for you greatly, as it is such a personal accessory. It’s an item that will be with the recipient for the rest of their life.

Q: And finally, what watch would you love to receive this year?

If I were lucky enough to receive a timepiece this Christmas, I would love a Cartier Tank. This watch is timeless as it has been in successful circulation for decades. It’s effortlessly chic, classically elegant, and if it’s good enough for Lady Diana and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, it’s certainly good enough for me!
