Cartier’s Panthère de Cartier is on the prowl
Published on 22 January 2021
The feminine Panthère de Cartier watch collection is distinctively Cartier and inspired by the Maison’s iconic Panther jewellery collection. Although the Panthère motif first appeared on a Cartier watch way back in 1914, it wasn’t until 1983 that the collection was released. At the time, the Panthère de Cartier collection made quite the splash, right at home amongst the glitz and glam of the 1980s, favoured by movie stars and royalty alike. Although released as a ladies collection, Panthère timepieces famously found themselves on the wrists of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and actor Pierce Brosnan, amongst others.
The watches themselves leaned heavily on Cartier’s finesse as a high-end jewellery house and, like a Panther, were sleek and elegant. Fast forward to 2017, and this quintessential collection was back, much to the delight of fans old and new. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the current line up.
Cartier currently offers the Panthère de Cartier in three sizes, ‘Mini’, ‘Small’ and ‘Medium’, measuring from 21x25mm, 22x30mm, and 27x37mm respectively. The beauty of these three refined sizes is their wearability and comfort on wrists of all sizes. This allows you to choose the best size for your style and personality, a statement in itself.
All Panthère de Cartier collection models come on slender and comfortable bracelets, famous for their concealed deployant clasps. In addition to a ‘traditional bracelet’, the Panthère de Cartier can be purchased as a ‘cuff watch’ which measures 31mm across and offers a unique look. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could make yours a double, or even a triple – loop style bracelet that is. These draping loops add an air of indulgence that’s hard to pass up.
Regardless of the bracelet, the Panthère de Cartier fills an essential spot in the brands watch offering, representing an almost perfect balance of sporty-chic timepieces. Besides looking great on the wrist, they are comfortable, making them ideal for all-day wear, not just special occasions.
As far as materials, the Panthère de Cartier collection is available in steel at the entry point, gold and steel (either yellow, or rose gold), or solid pink, yellow, or white gold. All metals are available with diamond bezels, for that subtle sparkle. For more dazzling types, there are diamond-set bracelets on offer. In fact, the medium Panthère de Cartier (reference HPI01096) is available in white gold with a rhodium finish, entirely diamond set, with black enamel ‘spots’ completing the panther transformation. From the dial to the bezel and crown, the bracelet, this energetic top-end model of the Panthère de Cartier collection features 560 brilliant-cut diamonds, yet again demonstrating the brand’s prowess as they blend precious jewels with watchmaking.
The Panthère de Cartier collection consists of 39 timepieces, which, true to the Maison’s intentions in 1983, are powered by accessible, approachable and convenient quartz movements. It’s an elegant family that prioritises timeless design and comfort, for those seeking a timepiece that is definitively Cartier.
