TiWi Arts Show

The Kennedy & Co Foundation was delighted to be involved with the Tiwi Islands Art Show, an event where our Foundation combined its resources with the Japalinga Foundation and presented Art Work created by leading Artists of the Tiwi Islands at an evening enjoyed by over 160 guests.

The focus of the Art Show was to raise some much needed funding to support the Japalinga Foundation’s Reaching for the Stars Programme, which assists disadvantaged indigenous youth living on Bathurst Island to reach for their stars and nurture their talents here on the Australian mainland, whether it is in academia, music, the arts or sport.

The Foundations were delighted with the support we received, with sales of the art work that evening raising over $20,000. What made the evening particularly special for all involved was the presence of students from Xavier Wurrumiyanga College, Bathurst Islands, together with the principal Ms Kathryn vanEgmond, who were here in Adelaide as part of the exchange programme with St Dominic’s Priory College. The girls’ special performance of their ‘dreaming dance’ was quite moving.

In attendance were the Principal and Vice Principal of St Dominic’s Priory - Sister Jillian Havey and Sister Jo Amour and the host families from the St Dominic’s community, together with the trustees of the Japalinga Foundation - Kathryn vanEgmond. Peter Krupka and Chris Toome and the Patron of the Kennedy & Co Foundation, Mr Bob Kennedy.
