Employment History

Paul commenced his career with D G Scott & Co, Chartered Accountants, in January 1988. He commenced employment with Edwards, Marshall & Co, Chartered Accountants, in May 1989. During the period 1988 to 1989 Paul worked as an assistant on audit and business services assignments. After that Paul worked in Corporate Recovery Services, Litigation Support Services and Business Services for Edwards, Marshall & Co until December 1995. In January 1996 Paul commenced temporary employment doing corporate finance work with Hays Accountancy Personnel in London. In April 1996, Paul commenced employment in the Corporate Recovery and Insolvency division of BDO Stoy Hayward, Chartered Accountants in London. In September 1996 Paul commenced employment with MRS Environmental Services Limited, a private environmental services company in London. In March 1997 Paul returned to Australia and commenced employment with Kennedy & Co, Chartered Accountant.

Paul obtained extensive experience in the areas of Corporate Recovery Services and Litigation Support Services at Edwards, Marshall & Co.
Paul was involved in the running of several large trading receiverships, liquidations, voluntary administrations, mortgagees in possession and liquidations including building companies, property developers and retailers.

Litigation Support assignments included a number of high profile court actions involving banks and large diversified corporate entities as well as many smaller matters. These assignments included assisting in the investigation of negligence of auditors, experts’ reports, fraud, responsibilities of directors, compliance with accounting standards, trade practices and family law matters, drafting of reports on those matters and the preparation of materials to be used by expert witnesses when giving evidence to the Court.

Paul was also involved in financial reporting and management reporting assignments including preparation of statutory financial statements and income tax returns and the preparation of management reports.

Paul has excellent computer skills including the design of spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel and Lotus 123. Paul has also been involved in the design and production of database management programs for the use of Edwards, Marshall & Co and for a large chain of Supermarkets using Microsoft Access.

During January 1996 Paul did temporary corporate finance work for a client of Hays Accountancy Personnel in London (MRS Environmental Services Limited) which was the subject of Due Diligence Investigations and negotiations by a potential purchaser. This involved the preparation of profit and loss and cash flow budgets and preparing financial information for Coopers & Lybrand who were acting as independent accountants. This led to a further assignment for the same client as financial controller of one of its regional divisions.

Paul’s employment at BDO Stoy Hayward, the seventh largest Chartered Accounting Firm in London during the six months ended September 1996 involved the running of a number of Corporate Voluntary Liquidations, Receiverships, Bankruptcies, Individual Voluntary Arrangements and Partnership Voluntary Arrangements.

In September 1996 Paul commenced work for MRS Environmental Services Limited in charge of the preparation of tenders for contracts, the disposal of one division for strategic purposes, the review of possible investment opportunities and the financial control of one of its regional divisions. MRS Environmental Services Limited is a contractor which provides services to London Boroughs and Councils through out the UK with a turnover of £20 million.

In March 1997 Paul returned to Australia and commenced employment with Kennedy & Co where he works in the areas of Litigation Support and Forensic Accounting, Insolvency, Management Consulting and Income Tax Advice.

Paul was appointed as a partner of Kennedy & Co, Chartered Accountants on 1 July 1998. Paul has been registered as a Liquidator and a Tax Agent since becoming a partner.

Since becoming a partner Paul has authored a number of experts reports in his own name and has given evidence as an expert witness.
Paul continues to work in the areas of Litigation Support and Forensic Accounting, Insolvency, Management Consulting and Income Tax Advice.

GST

Paul has presented seminars on the business implications of GST and was on the GST implementation committees of two medium sized clients.

Corporate Recovery & Insolvency

Paul is a registered liquidator has experience in a wide range of insolvency administrations, involving formal administrations, including Official Liquidations, Receivership's, Members' and Creditors' Voluntary Windings Up, Voluntary Administrations and Deeds of Company Arrangements. He also has experience in Agent for Mortgagees in Possession appointments. In addition Paul has been involved in similar administrations in the UK as well as personal insolvency appointments. Paul has also been involved in reports on various insolvency-related issues and situations, including advice to bankers in relation to security reviews and possible turnaround strategies.

Litigation Support

Paul has been involved in a wide range of litigation support assignments including consequential loss as a result of fires, professional liability, commercial disputes, proving of fraudulent claims, personal injury claims and matrimonial property settlements. In matters of commercial litigation, he has assisted solicitors representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Paul’s experience includes both small to medium sized clients as well as involvement in a number of very large corporate litigation's.

In family law matters, Paul has assisted in valuing the interests of spouses in business assets on numerous occasions. Paul has given evidence to the Family Court in matrimonial matters and the District Court of South Australia.

Audit

Paul has been involved in the audit of a number of small to medium sized entities.

Interests

Outside of the Profession, Paul enjoys family, triathlons, theatre, reading and movies.
